I start on camera to introduce the update, then bring in my screen to walk through the task. As I finish the checklist and leave a review note, my camera stays in the corner. When I move the work across the board, I give the screen more room. One recording, four layouts, with the transitions already handled.

Record together

Capture your screen, webcam and microphone in the same session.

Choose the composition

Give your camera or the screen more space at the moments that need it.

Refine the transitions

Set layout changes on the timeline and choose a smooth transition or a direct cut.

Make the layout follow your explanation.

After recording, move the playhead to the moment you want to change the composition. Choose a layout in the camera inspector and set it at the playhead. It continues until the next change.

Set the changes in the camera track

Here I select an interval and add a camera layout. Fullscreen camera introduces the idea. Split screen keeps the speaker and the work together, while an overlay gives the screen more space. I can also choose Screen only. The purple blocks show where each layout applies. Finally, I adjust the transition and play the complete sequence. I start on camera to introduce the update, then bring in my screen to walk through the task. As I finish the checklist and leave a review note, my camera stays in the corner. Position the overlay

Choose the camera's position, size and corner rounding. Keep it clear of the controls and content your viewers need to see.

Adjust the timing

Move or delete a layout change on the camera track. The default transition is half a second; a duration of zero makes a direct cut.

Keep the action separate

Screen zooms affect the screen area. Your camera and text remain separate layers, so a close view of a control does not enlarge your face.

Questions about recording with a webcam.

Can I record my screen and webcam at the same time?

Yes. Enable your webcam in the recording setup, select your screen or capture area and add a microphone if you want narration. macOS will ask for the relevant permissions.

Can I change the camera layout after recording?

Yes. Set fullscreen camera, split screen, camera overlay or screen only at the playhead. You can move or remove those changes on the camera track and adjust the transition duration.

Can I hide my camera for part of the video?

Yes. Use screen only for the section that needs the space, then set another layout when you want your camera to return. Existing camera visibility controls remain available.

Does this work for portrait videos?

Yes. Split screen uses a stacked composition in portrait formats. You can also use an overlay, fullscreen camera or screen only, with the screen's proportions preserved.

Can I add a camera that was not recorded?

These layouts use the camera track captured with the recording. Record with your webcam enabled if you want to switch camera layouts afterwards.
